Sandeep Gupta received M.Tech. (Applied Geophysics) degree with University Medal from University of Roorkee (Now IIT Roorkee) India in 1997. He obtained Ph.D. (Geophysics) degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 2004. The thesis was awarded as the best thesis in Geophysics (2004) by ONGC-AEG. After joining CSIR-NGRI as Junior Scientist in 2004, currently he holds the position of Principal Scientist as well as Associate Professor in AcSIR.
To understand the seismotectonics, geodynamics and mineral exploration in varying tectonic regimes, Dr. Gupta generates seismic images at varying scales by using earthquakes and/or seismic noise as the source and apply different techniques (e.g., Seismic Tomography, Receiver Function, Noise-correlation). Dr. Gupta has 30 scientific papers in National and International journals and presented over 30 papers in various conferences. He is a recipient of National Geoscience Award – 2014 by Government of India.
Dr. Gupta visited Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan (2007-2008) under BOYSCAST fellowship by Government of India. In 2012, he visited IPG Paris, France as Raman Research Fellow by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. Dr. Gupta is actively involved in various projects of Seismological Imaging Group of CSIR-NGRI. As a key researcher (Geophysicist), he worked in the India-Australia Strategic Research Fund (IASRF) project for exploring the gold potential in Dharwar Craton. Dr. Gupta has guided and co-guided many national and international students for their research work. Dr. Gupta is a member and fellow of various scientific societies. Dr. Gupta is a technical reviewer to many national / international journals (e.g., JGR, GJI, Tectonophysics, Marine Geology, JAES, PEPI, Natural Hazards, JGSI, Current Science), project proposals and Ph.D. thesis. Dr. Gupta is Associate editor of Journal of Indian Geophysical Union.
