Project title: "GPS - Geodesy for Tectonics, Kinematics, and Dynamics of Indian Plate and its margins by global network solution"

Project Leader : Dr.-Ing.Mrs E.C.Malaimani
Significant Achievements

NGRI has an International Global Positioning System Services for Geodynamics (IGS) Permanent Tracking Station that is continually operational since 1995.
The station was established with an objective of carrying out studies on Indian plate Kinematics, Plate Tectonics, Crustal deformations and the driving forces and mechanisms of Indian Plate movement.

The data is being accrued continuously and transmitted to IGS Data Center directly; thereby NGRI has become one of the data contributing agencies. Apart from the data being available for the global users at the IGS data center, the data is also archived at NGRI.
With the data accrued till date and after analyzing and processing in the Global Network Solution, the Indian Plate movement has been estimated to be towards NNE direction at the rate of 3.7 2cm/yr and this has been also revalidated with the inclusion of the data accrued till date.
The Time Series of Hyderabad site co-ordinates and the velocity vector of Hyderabad site are being constantly updated.

Other Expertise available with the group:
The group can undertake Civil Aviation assignments for Aircraft Landing purposes as it has already established a GPS reference Station at Hyderabad Airport for Airport Authorities of India (AAI).

The group and the infrastructure are well equipped for carrying out Real Time Kinematics Survey (RTK), Automatic Fleet Management System, Vehicle Tracking and Defence applications like Missile Launching and Tracking.
