PRESS RELEASE KRISHNAN GOLD MEDAL FOR CSIR-NGRI SCIENTIST
The Indian Geophysical Union chose Dr. Prasanta K. Patro, Principal Scientist, CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad for award of the prestigious KRISHNAN GOLD MEDAL for the year 2011 for his original and enduring contributions towards electrical imaging of the peninsular Indian shield applying Magnetotelluric methods. His innovative studies provided important insights into the make-up of the earth’s interior beneath the Deccan volcanic province besides delineating high-resolution images of earthquake prone hidden faults. His other significant research includes evaluation of the energy resource potential of selective regions of the Indian shield. Dr. Patro has already received several other prominent recognitions, notable among them being Post-doctoral research fellowship from the Oregon State University, USA; Japan Science Promotion Society (JSPS) fellowship, Tokyo and the BOYSCAST fellowship from Government of India. The medal and citation for the year 2011 will be conferred on Dr. Patro during the inaugural function of the 48th annual convention of Indian Geophysical Union on 20th December 2011 at Visakhapatnam.
