Area: Lithosphere, Earth’s Interior and Paleo-Environment

Objectives:

• The project aims to improve our understanding of the evolution of the crust and the Sub-continental Lithospheric

  Mantle (SCLM) of the Dharwar Craton. Key issues to this end include a resolution of events of crust formation and

  recycling in space and time. The project envisages development of new integrated bulk and microbeam analytical

  techniques deploying EPMA, LAM-MC-ICPMS and LAM-ICPMS for major, trace and isotopic composition

  measurements in rocks and minerals. Focus shall be on a set of LIL and HFS trace elements such as REE, Zr, Nb,

  Ta, Ba and Y and insitu U-Pb zircon geochronology and zircon Hf isotopic measurements. The targets shall be a set

  of crustal rocks, mantle xenoliths and mantle magmatic products emplaced at different times in the protracted Precambrian

  record of the Dharwar and Bastar cratons.
