Area: Exploration, Assessment and Management of Groundwater Resources

Objectives:

a) Groundwater

• Delineation of freshwater and saline water interface

• Protection of coastal aquifers from degradation through managed aquifer methods

• Identification of aquifers to be used during climatic hazards

• Paleorecharge/paleo climate studies

  (Oldest groundwater carbon-14 dated from Jaisalmir area, Rajasthan)

b) Paleoseismology

• Identification of paleo seismic/paleo tsunami features in the NE (with emphasis on Kopili river valley) and Andaman regions.

• Build a chronology of the identified features.

• Estimation of recurrence period (if more no. of events available)
