Summer/Winter Internships

CSIR-NGRI plays a vital role in creating trained human resources with emphasis on geology and geophysics. It is the framework for helping post-graduate students of various Indian Universities/Institutes to develop their professional skills, knowledge, and abilities. Over 100 post-graduate students are being trained every year as Summer/Winter Interns.

Post-graduate students in their second last semester, studying Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, are eligible to apply. Online applications on the NGRI website open each year in January for the Summer Internships and in October for the Winter Internships. Selection is very competitive and is based on a combination of requirements and positions available with scientists of the Institute. A certificate is awarded to each student on the successful completion of their Internship and submission of their Report.

In summer the first slot spreads over May-June, while the next over July-August. In winter there is only one slot, during December-January. A successful candidate may stay for a minimum period of 6 weeks and maximum of 8 weeks within each phase. Overlaps/extensions are not permitted. The Student Academic Committee (a sub Committee within HRDG) is responsible for selection and allocation processes.

Master’s Dissertations

CSIR-NGRI also offers opportunities to pursue post graduate level research work for completion of Master’s Dissertations, as required by several Universities. A candidate may write to sac@ngri.res.in through HOD with a short research plan, indicating the aims, desired area of work and expected outcome. This will be evaluated for its merit and if accepted, the candidate would be invited to work at the Institute. Duration is 4-6 months and group dissertations are not entertained. The Dissertation Thesis would be completed at NGRI and would include the name of the scientist as Supervisor, along with other requirements of the respective Institute/College/University. A copy would be submitted to NGRI.
